Best Hunting and Fishing Spots in the US

If you enjoy hunting and fishing, then finding new and exciting spots to visit is a great way to keep up with those sports. There are a variety of towns around the United States that boast great fishing or hunting areas. Regardless of whether you’re going for a weekend or longer, you may want to try out at least one of these spots for your next trip.

Appleton, Wisconsin

This is a great spot if you like both hunting and fishing as you’ll find a little of both in Appleton. Today, people come from around the states to hunt their large whitetail deer population. If you want to branch out into fishing, the Fox River or Lake Winnebago are prime walleye fisheries. Travel about 30 minutes north and you’ll find some great muskie and smallmouth bass fishing. This is a great location when you’ve got time to both hunt and fish.

Venice, Louisiana

Although most people think about this area as being the site of the Deepwater Horizon spill, the area has seen great recovery and remains probably the best place to hunt waterfowl and fish. In 2011, the Bassmaster Classic competitors traveled down the Mississippi starting in New Orleans down to Venice and filled their boats with largemouths. However, you can also find redfish if you’re more of a recreational fisherman. You can be sure that you’ll have a successful fishing trip every time that you set out on the water.

Rapid City, South Dakota

Also known as the gateway to the Black Hills region, this small town offers a wide range of both hunting and fishing opportunities. Take a trip west of Rapid City and you’ll be able to fish for brown, brook, and rainbow trout. You can also find reservoirs that hold panfish, pike, and largemouths. You can find hunting opportunities here throughout the year. The mountain area is home to whitetails, elk, turkeys, and mule deer in plentiful supply. A short trip will put you in range of pheasants, prairie chickens, and sharptails. If you enjoy hunting, make sure to visit a site like Max Blagg to make sure your gear is ready to go.

Centerville, Iowa

Just like its name suggests, Centerville is located in the middle of a hunter’s paradise. The whitetails hunted here have made headlines, but the southern central area of Iowa has a lot of hunting opportunities available throughout the year. You can hunt for turkeys and waterfowl and take your fishing trips here to Rathbun Lake. Fish for crappies and walleyes just north of town. Of note, the personal dimension of the town makes it a favorite spot to visit. The classic Midwestern square and friendliness of the residents make it a fun and welcoming place to visit for a yearly trip.

Although you may be an avid hunter or new to the sport, finding new places to enjoy is always a good experience. Consider planning out your trip to one of these spots. You can enjoy both hunting and fishing at these locations throughout the year.

3 Terrific Hunting Trips in the US

There are many different hunting trips you can take across the U.S., depending on the season and how well you’re willing to wrap up against the elements.

However, before you leave for your hunting adventure, you want to take all the right hunting gear with you and fine the best browning rifles for sale too. Make sure to bring your whistle, warm clothing and the right waterproof hunting boots to protect your feet when it’s wet or cold underfoot.

Here are the 3 best hunting trips we could find in the US.

Duck Hunting in Arkansas

Over at Commander’s Corner in Wilmot, you can find that duck hunting is a local pastime. Waterfowl is found throughout the Arkansas state making this duck hunting country for people who think they’re accurate and fast enough. Should you get one on target, then your retriever is allowed to come with you to bring back what it can find from the hunt.

The lodgings are located near to the hunting location with well-appointed rooms, Wi-Fi access, Southern hospitality and a comfortable place to relax.

There are various licenses required for hunting in the state. These include an Arkansas non-resident waterfowl stamp and either a 5-day small game license for hunting or an annual pass for non-residents. Check with Commander’s Corner to see what the latest requirements are to ensure you have your paperwork ready before you travel.

Elk Hunting in Montana

The Rocky Mountains are the setting for an elk hunt that takes place mostly on horseback. Camping like Lewis & Clark, you’ll be able to lay down in tents, enjoy campfires, and look at the clear skies for stars lighting up the night sky.

Using horses instead of hunting elk on foot, you get to cover more ground without exhausting your feet and coming back home with blisters for your trouble. The elk are a large beast, so accuracy is more important than speed on this hunt. People who enjoy taking their time to get everything just right will have a good time here. Moving through a big country, you’ll enjoy spectacular views as you attempt to track down the elk.

Pronghorn in Wyoming

When wanting to hunt for Pronghorn, Wyoming is the state to visit because it has more of them than anywhere else in the United States. Pronghorns are mostly out in the open, even moving near the highway at times. They’re fast, but also large prey. They’ve been hunted for hundreds of years including the Native Americans, cowboys, and anyone else who dared to try.

You’ll need to be sure what land you have a right to access in Wyoming and then get your permit application into the Wyoming Game & Fish site near the beginning of the year. Once you have your permit, start making plans.

Going on a hunting trip takes a good amount of planning ahead of time. You cannot just show up and expect to be allowed to hunt. The right gear and relevant permissions is required within the state to do the kind of hunting that you’re planning, so it pays to check out all the requirements first.
