Loving the Outdoors in Ely, Minnesota

Nothing beats a day outdoors. It provides great relief from stressful work and lets you get away from the hustle and bustle of the busy life. If you’re looking for that great adventure in Minnesota, then best head on to Ely and find out what outdoor fun is in store for you.

Hiking

There are many hiking trails in Ely, Minnesota as it abounds in wilderness covered in forests and bushes. Thus, there are also different kinds of hiking that one can enjoy in Ely. You can enjoy short day walks, or whole day trekking. Also, you can go for an extended stay if you want to, but you’ll need to make camp at night or stop by the bunkhouses if available. There are many famous hiking trails in the area, like the Bass Trail for example. This trail goes around the Bass Lake and is about 5 miles long or so and takes about 4-6 hours to complete. There is also the Secret/Blackstone Trail, which is 8 miles long and ends in a scenic overlook over a ledge. If you’re looking for waterfalls, then the Kawishiwi Falls trails is for you, which is a short walk of 1.5 miles and ends at the foot of the 70 feet high Kawishiwi Falls.

Mountain Biking

If you’re not into walking, then try riding your two wheelers in the rugged bike paths of Ely. There are many bike trails in the area with different terrains and levels of difficulty to match every kind of rider. There are gravel paths and grassy paths as well as hard packed dirt. The best part is that these trail have a lot of scenic views along them that you will surely slow down to admire the views instead of whizzing past by. Some of the most popular trails are the Hidden Valley Recreations Area, Nickel Lake area, and the Fernberg Tower Area.

Hunting

If you’re looking for some target shooting fun, then Ely is the place to be. Hunters of various levels often get their gears ready and head here. There are still swimming ducks at the lakes, or for more challenge you can startle them and aim while they’re airborne. There are also bigger animals like deer for the more experienced shooters. Just be careful since bears are also known to roam in the areas. This hunting can be a great way to bond with the boys, whether you’re going there with friends, families or on your lonesome. What’s best is that after a long day at the woods you can find a lot of relaxation areas and lodging facilities in the area.

Kayaking and Canoeing

If you’re a water enthusiast then head on to the various lakes and rivers of Ely. There are gently lolling waves at the lakes that will make for an easy canoeing experience, and gushing rivers for kayaking. You don’t even have to worry about bringing your boat along as there are several kayaking and canoeing operators there in the area that rent out equipments. They even offer a guided tour or if you simply want some company while you’re paddling in the waters.
