4 Reasons You Should Try A Skiing Holiday

If you’re used to your main annual holiday consisting of fun in the sun, sea and sand, swapping this familiar environment for mountains, snow and sub-zero temperatures probably seems counterintuitive.

But variety is the spice of life and there’s every chance you’ll enjoy a snowsports vacation just as much as your usual beach break. In fact, once you’ve tried it once, you’re guaranteed to go back for more.

Need more convincing? Read these four reasons you should try a skiing holiday.

1. It’s fun!

What could be more exhilarating than zooming down snow covered slopes, twisting through trees, swerving round obstacles and flying over jumps?

First and foremost, skiing is fantastic fun and the buzz you’ll get from being on the slopes and gradually improving your technique will keep you coming back for more.

Tip: check out this video on the joy of skiing from SportChek.

2. It keeps you fit

While you’re having fun on the pistes you’re also getting in trim, which is a brilliant added bonus  ?  in six hours of skiing you can burn 3,000 calories, tone your abs, boost your immune system and even stave off depression.

And apart from the strong core you’ll develop from learning to balance on skis, your cardiovascular system gets a great workout and you can lose up to five pounds a week.

Tip: moderate your alcohol consumption on your ski holiday to maximise the health benefits.

3. The scenery is stunning

Ski holidays are synonymous with stunning scenery  ?  there’s something fundamentally fabulous about any environment cloaked in pristine snow and if you’re in a traditional resort with chocolate box chalets, the ambience is awesome.

But some resorts are blessed by preternatural beauty, for example the view from the summit of Aiguilles de Chamonix in the heart of the Mont Blanc massif extends across three countries and includes the Grand Combin, Monta Rosa and Matterhorn mountains.

Tip: arrange a hassle-free customised ski holiday with Alpine gurus Erna Low.

4. The après-ski is awesome

Whether chic cafes and Michelin-starred restaurants are your bag or you prefer bustling bars serving tankards of high-strength lager and cool clubs where you can throw some shapes ‘til the wee small hours, après-ski is an essential component in any skiing holiday.

Bars like La Folie Douce in the French Alps have elevated après to an art form, but wherever you ski in the world, having a choice of establishments in which to relax and unwind is almost mandatory for any resort.

Tip: read this article on the top 10 party ski resorts from Skyscanner.

So there you have it  ?  a quartet of quality reasons why you should try a skiing holiday.

We hope we’ve encouraged you to hit the slopes and try this cathartic activity that cleanses the mind, body and spirit.

5 activities to help you reconnect with the great outdoors

As time goes on, the human race is becoming more and more urbanized. More of us are living in towns and big cities than ever before and our lives are permanently connected. Smartphones and the internet mean that there is very little chance to escape the hustle and bustle of modern day life.

All of that also means that we are losing the strong connection we once had with nature. How many of us have gazed up at the stars, watched the sunset or sunrise over a forest or taken a stroll through the woods in the last year – all activities that our ancestors from millenniums ago participated in with relish?

Missing that connection? Here are five activities to help you reconnect with the great outdoors.

Go bird watching

Birds are fascinating creatures, but how many of us have seen anything other than a pigeon or a seagull in the cities in which we live? There are 993 species of bird in North American according to the American Birding Association – getting out in the great outdoors is a great way to appreciate them. With a set of binoculars, you’ll be scanning the horizon from skyline to ground, making you aware of your surroundings and appreciating the beautiful American countryside.

Go foraging for mementos

It doesn’t cost any money to be out in the great outdoors and it doesn’t cost any money to pick up mementos. Acorns, pinecones, bird feathers and snake skins are all great things to collect. From the beach, you can find funny shaped rocks and interesting shells to go in your garden. You can even turn your finds into works of art to decorate your home with – colorful autumn leaves sealed in sheets of wax to display on wall or in a book or seashells glued to a wooden frame can give you a unique piece of art.

Catch your own dinner

Nothing connects us with our ancestors from millenniums ago than by following in the footsteps that allowed them to survive – namely, catching you own dinner. Being in the great outdoors allows us to do that, whether it be through fishing, snaring a rabbit or hunting. If you’re planning on hunting, take a look at these Best Rifle Scope Reviews before you go for the tools to help you succeed on the hunt.

Pick fruit

It isn’t just meat and fish that you can catch for your dinner. There is an abundance of fruit in the great outdoors, all of which is ready and waiting to be picked. Blueberries, raspberries and apples can either be eaten there and then or taken home and made into a delicious jam or pie.

Look at the sky

The sky provides us with some of natures most beautiful sights, but hardly any of us get to see it in all its glory. Light pollution means that 80 percent of Americans can no longer see the Milky Way while plenty of people claim to be too busy to stand still and take a few minutes to watch a sunrise or sunset. By being in the great outdoors, miles away from urban living we can appreciate just what happens in our skies.

7 Things You Should Get for Your Camping Trip

If you are planning on going camping in the near future, there are a few key items and supplies that you will need to bring with you. These things will make your trip more convenient and enjoyable overall. One of the biggest mistakes that people make when going camping is to not come prepared. These days, there are all sorts of products that are perfect for any camping trip, and you will need to know what they are.

1. A Durable Backpack

Those who go camping often will definitely want to invest in a hiking backpack that will stand the test of time. This is one of the best investments you can make, especially if you tend to explore the great outdoors a lot. Because there are so many different backpacks to choose from, you should take as much time as necessary to find the right one for your camping trips.

2. Keychain Flashlight

A keychain flashlight can also be a great thing to bring on your next camping trip. This device will help you see at night, so you don’t have to worry about stumbling around in the dark. You should take as much time as necessary to find the best keychain flashlight.

3. Portable Water Filter

A portable water filter will provide you with clean drinking water wherever you go. Whether you are camping on a beach by an ocean or a not-so-clean lake, you can use one of these devices to turn undrinkable water into sweet hydration within minutes.

4. Mosquito Repellent Bracelet

Although it might seem a bit odd at first, a mosquito repellent bracelet can actually work quite well when it comes to warding off these pesky little insects. If you want to make your camping trip more enjoyable, you should really think about investing in one of these.

5. Fire Starter Device

A fire starter will allow you to quickly and easily start a fire, no matter where you are, even if it is raining outside. This is an essential device for anyone who loves to camp.

6. Emergency Medical Kit

The last thing you want is to get injured in the wilderness without a way to treat your injuries immediately. An emergency medical kit will come with all the supplies you need to prevent infection and take care of yourself if something happens.

7. USB Solar Charger

A USB solar charger is another great investment to make, as it offers an eco-friendly and most convenient way to charge your electronics. There aren’t very many outlets in nature, so one of these charger devices can be a great purchase to make. You will most likely be very glad you bought a USB solar charger once you are in the woods.

When it comes to having a great time on your next camping trip, you will need to get the right supplies before hitting the road and heading out into the wilderness. These are just some of the better items and gadgets that you can benefit from when camping.

A Beginner’s Guide to Buying Camper Trailers

With Australia boasting some of the most diverse, beautiful and breathtaking scenery in the world, it’s no surprise that camping is a popular activity across the country. Many families choose to spend their holidays and long weekends travelling around the country to new places and checking out the great outdoors, and many do so in a camper trailer. This article will take a look at why camper trailers are an excellent choice of accommodation and why so many people choose them. If you’re looking for camper trailers for sale, this article will also provide some great reasons as to why buying one is a great idea.

Camper Trailers – The Different Types Available

Camper trailers are an economical and time-saving option for those who want to travel around the country and experience the great outdoors. They’re a cross between a caravan, a tent and a trailer, and they’re generally built tough and durable with serious outdoor use in mind. From the easy-to-set-up hard floor models through to the more economical soft floor models, there are a variety of camper trailers for sale around the country. When looking at camper trailers for sale, the type you select will largely depend on where you’re planning to take it, how big it needs to be, and of course, how much money you have available to spend on a camper trailer.

Hard Floor Camper Trailers

Hard floor camper trailers feature a hard fold out floor which is used as a floor as well as a lid when the camper is folded up. Hard floor models are easy to assemble and simply require the lid to be opened up and the tent folded out.

Soft Floor Camper Trailers

Soft floor camper trailers take a little longer to set up than hard floor models, but they can be set up more easily on uneven ground (which is not always possible with hard floor campers). Most soft floor campers come with fold out kitchen facilities, a double bed mattress, and other features that make for an enjoyable and comfortable camping experience.

Why Travel in Camper Trailers?

There are a number of reasons to choose camper trailers, including the fact that they’re quite compact and don’t take up much space. This also means they can be towed into places like underground car parks and fast food drive-throughs, unlike caravans. Camper trailers can be towed behind most vehicles with relative ease, plus they offer a good amount of storage space. In addition to this, most camper trailers for sale offer money-saving benefits, as they’re much cheaper to purchase than campervans and can also cost a lot less to tow due to being much lighter in weight.

In Summary

Camper trailers are a great alternative to campervans and caravans, offering travellers a time saving, space saving and money saving way to visit some amazing places. With a variety of different camper trailers for sale and many different models available, there’s sure to be a model that perfectly suits your needs and falls within your budget.
